Medical Conditions and Injury Prevention: USA Cycling Course

USA Cycling CEU Course: Medical Conditions and Injury Prevention

Know exactly what to do when it matters most.

From crashes and concussions to heat stroke and disordered eating, cyclists face serious health risks every day. As a coach, you can’t diagnose or treat — but knowing when to step in and exactly what to do could make all the difference.

Our course on “Medical Conditions and Injury Prevention” gives you the tools for navigating the medical gray areas every coach faces. This course gives you clear protocols and simple decision-making frameworks, so you can confidently handle the toughest situations, protect your athletes, and coach with clarity when health is on the line.

You’ll walk away ready to:

  • Manage cycling’s most common injuries through using proper abrasion care, concussion symptom checklists, and return-to-sport progressions
  • Identify and intervene in Female Athlete Triad cases — using risk factor recognition tools, athlete screening strategies, and collaborative referral pathways to dietitians and medical professionals.
  • Respond to sudden cardiac events and red flags — by using health history screenings and identifying symptoms of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and commotio cordis.
  • Use sweat rate calculations, heat illness warning signs, and Wet Bulb Globe Temperature guidelines to prevent heat-related emergencies.
  • Identify triggers for asthma, apply best practices for EIA management, and implement carbohydrate fueling strategies to reduce immune suppression.

Whether you’re coaching juniors, masters, or elites — the unexpected happens. This course makes sure you’re ready with real-world tools, expert-backed protocols, and the confidence to protect your athlete’s safety every step of the way.
